Profile
Sandra is an Assistant Professor within the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster. She worked clinically for many years, primarily in community mental health settings, and started teaching at McMaster in 1994. She recently completed her PhD at the University of Toronto in the School of Public Health. Her doctoral research was funded in part by a CHIR training fellowship related to mental health and addictions services and policy research. Her doctoral research explored institutional practices of silence surrounding healthcare workers with mental health and addictions issues.
Teaching responsibilities at McMaster are primarily in Year 2 of the occupational therapy professional masters program, including course coordination in Terms 4 and 6, and guest lectures related to OT practice in the field of mental health.
Research Specialty
Sandra's primary research interests relate to mental health/mental illness and disability issues, utilizing primarily qualitative methods informed by a critical social theory perspective. She is particularly interested in workplace mental health, mental health policy, psychosocial rehabilitation and community engagement.
Fun Fact:
Outside of McMaster, you may find me in various obscure hockey arenas in southwestern Ontario with my boys, or perhaps communing with nature with my puppy.
