Profile
Shami has completed her post-secondary education at McMaster University in Biochemistry with a minor in Theme School on International Justice and Human Rights (1999), Occupational Therapy (2001) and Rehabilitation Science (2006). Her thesis examined the role of occupational therapists in advocating with/for people with disabilities. Clinically, she has provided occupational therapy services in the areas of forensic psychiatry and disability management.
Currently, Shami is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the School of Rehabilitation Science. She is involved in the occupational therapy program in terms 1, 5 and 6 with respect to course co-ordination and teaching. Additionally, Shami is maintaining a small caseload in disability management and providing research assistance in various projects at the university.
Fun Fact
Shami makes an effort to try new occupations on a regular basis. Occupations explored in the last year include knitting, kayaking and traveling to South Asia alone. After all, an activity will not become meaningful unless it's attempted!
