Profile

Sara Gallagher is a Physiotherapist and is a Professional Associate in the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University and teaches in the MSc(PT) program. She also holds the title of Assistant Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education and is involved in the placement and coordination of clinical education placements for the McMaster MSc(PT) students. She holds a Bachelor of Physical Education degree from Brock University (1994), a Bachelor of Health Science (Physiotherapy) degree from McMaster University (1996) and is presently pursuing her Masters of Science degree at McMaster University – completion date anticipated June 2008. Her thesis work is an outcome measure study evaluating the usefulness of the Functional Abilities Confidence Scale (FACS) with regards to clients with chronic low back pain.

Current teaching responsibilities include tutoring in Unit 1, 2 and 6 within the MSc(PT) program.

Sara's clinical background is in private outpatient orthopedic / musculoskeletal physiotherapy. She practiced for 12 years following graduation in Southern Ontario in various private outpatient physiotherapy clinics. She has a particular interest in manual therapy, exercise prescription and acupuncture. She is proud to be part of Highland Physiotherapy Clinic in Dundas , Ontario – a clinic co-owned by her husband (Physiotherapist, Paul Jager) and a business partner (Physiotherapist, Rob McCall).

Research interests include treatment interventions related to low back injuries including core stability and the role of transverse abdominus; outcome measures related to orthopedic assessment / treatment and research related to providing effective feedback to students in the academic and clinical setting.

Fun Fact

Sara's avocational time is spent with her husband and young son. She can often be found horse back riding on the Rail trail; hiking the local trails with her husband, son and 2 dogs and puttering in her garden.
