Profile
Dr. Norma MacIntyre received a B.Sc. in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto in 1985, a Master’s of Science (Anatomy) from the University of Western Ontario in 1994 and a Ph.D. (Medical Sciences – Cell Biology and Metabolism) from McMaster University in 1999. Norma completed two postdoctoral fellowships before joining the faculty in the School of Rehabilitation Therapy at Queen’s University. In 2007, Norma returned to McMaster University. She teaches MSc (PT) students in their final academic unit and conducts research directed at optimizing bone and joint function in order to keep people moving and participating in meaningful activities. Her work to date uses novel medical imaging-based methods to assess 1) bone quality as it relates to fracture risk and fracture management, and 2) joint competency in individuals suffering from problems affecting the knee.
Fun Fact
Norma enjoys being on and around the water, live music and dinner with friends.
Taking Graduate Students
Norma has a position for one graduate student enrolling in the Rehabilitation Science program in 2009 with an interest in evaluating bone quality and response to physical loading.
Lab/Research Institute
Norma collaborates with researchers in the Department of Nuclear Medicine, HHS and the Hamilton Arthritis Centre. As well, Norma maintains an adjunct faculty appointment at Queen's University and is an active member of a multidisciplinary research team completing projects in the Human Mobility Research Centre located in the Kingston General Hospital (www.hmrc.ca).
