Profile
Joyce Tryssenaar is an Associate Professor in the School of Rehabilitation Science and Co-ordinator of the MSc (Rehabilitation Science) course-based online option. She is also the Occupational Therapy Coordinator for the Northern Studies Stream. Her field of research includes curriculum development and evaluation, tutor training in PBL programs, aging with serious mental illness and qualitative research methods. She has many years of clinical experience in all areas of mental health and mental illness practice including crisis intervention, in and outpatient settings, and case management. Her teaching area in the professional Masters (OT) program focuses on disability, development, and occupation with regard to individuals with mental illness, adult education, stigma, and grief and loss. In the online program her teaching responsibilities include clinical reasoning and decision-making, and facilitating learning in the rehabilitation context. She also has a small private practice working in the auto insurance sector.
Research SpecialtyJoyce’s field of research includes curriculum development and evaluation, rural and remote education and practice, and interprofessional experience in online learning.

I live in Thunder Bay, Ont. – the center of Canada where the air is clean, unspoiled nature is 5 minutes away, and there are no traffic jams.
