Profile
Dr. Linda Woodhouse is a physiotherapist and an exercise physiologist. Linda is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University and a Scientific Affiliate at Hamilton Health Sciences in the Department of Rehabilitation and Orthopaedics and at the Holland Orthopaedic and Arthritic Institute (OAI) of Sunnybrook and Women's Health Sciences Centre in the Department of Surgery. Prior to her post-doctoral studies at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and Charles Drew University in California, Linda was a lecturer at the University of Toronto and a physiotherapist at the OAI where she was instrumental in establishing the Centre for Studies of Physical Function (C.S.P.F), a clinical teaching and research unit that was set up as a joint venture in 1990 between the Departments of Rehabilitation at the OAI and the University of Toronto. Since returning to Canada, Linda has started to establish a network of individuals (researchers, clinicians) and facilities (hospital and community-based) interested in stream-lining and optimizing care for patients undergoing total hip and knee replacement. Linda's research interests are focused on (1) developing measures to evaluate physical and functional capacity and (2) investigating the relationship between structure (at the cellular level) and more global clinical measures of physical function and quality of life in adults with musculoskeletal (low back pain, ACL deficiency, total hip and knee replacements), endocrine (growth hormone deficiency, acromegaly, hypogonadism & sarcopenia) and immune (HIV wasting ) disorders. Her educational activities include teaching clinical skills in musculoskeletal practice and the principles of exercise in the physiotherapy program, as well as supervising graduate students.
